Finally, the wait for the much-awaited Tata Zica, popularly known by its codename Kite, is over. Tata Motors pulled the wraps off its global hatchback Zica in India on 1 December (Tuesday).
Tata Zica, the next big offering from the makers of Nano, is a small car based on the copiously tweaked Xo platform that is poised to begin its journey in India in early January 2016. Zica, which got its name from 'Zippy' cars, will be pinned to rival Maruti Celerio, Hyundai i10 and the Chevrolet Beat in the country.
To be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options, the powertrain of Tata Zica will include 1.2-litre three-cylinder DOHC aluminum motor and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine. While the petrol engine tuned to dish out 83.8bhp of power at 6000 rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3500 rpm, the diesel mill is capable of putting out 69bhp of power 4000 rpm and 140Nm of torque between 1800 – 3000 rpm.
In both variants of Tata Zica, the transmission will be taken care of by a five speed manual gearbox. There is no AMT option on offer for now. Tata Zica also gets Multi Drive such as ECO, City and Sport like the company's Zest and Bolt.
In terms of dimensions, Zica measures 3746 mm long, 1647 mm wide, 1535 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2400 mm. It comes with a ground clearance of 170 mm and offers a boot space of 242 liters. Tata Zica petrol variant weighs 1,012 kgs and the diesel variant weighs 1,080 kgs.
The feature list of Tata Zica includes Harman infotainment system with 8 speakers, steering mounted audio controls for telephony, electrically adjustable ORVM, cooled glove box, foldable key and roof antenna. On the safety front, Zica gets Advanced Dual Path Suspension, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution) and Corner Stability Control.
The price and variant details of new Zica are expected to be revealed at the launch of the model in India in January, however, expect it to fall in the brackets of Rs 3.6 lakh to 5.8 lakh.
