It appears like Tata Motors is leaving no stone unturned in its attempt to grab a neat pie with its upcoming Zica hatchback in the Indian auto market. The Zica, the hatchback which is gearing up for a January launch, will also be launched with automated manual transmission (AMT) later, suggest the emerging reports.
Tata unveiled its Zica in India in the first week of December. Powered by 1.2-litre three-cylinder DOHC aluminum motor and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine, the transmission in Zica will be taken care of by a five speed manual gearbox. Now a report of Business Standard, citing Girish Wagh, senior vice president, programme planning and management (passenger cars), Tata Motors, reveals that Tata also has plans to equip its new Zica with AMT boxes later in its life cycle.
"Today, more than half of the GenX Nano numbers comes from the AMT variant. We will provide Zica with AMT when the model gets absorbed in the market and is ready for its next stage of growth," the publication quoted Wagh.
It is not surprising that Tata Zica will also join the league of AMT models in the market as it is going to compete with Maruti Celerio, which is the first model to offer the AMT technology in India.
Zica measuring 3746 mm long, 1647 mm wide, 1535 mm tall, comes with a ground clearance of 170 mm and offers a boot space of 242 litres. Tata Zica petrol variant weighs 1,012 kgs and the diesel variant weighs 1,080 kgs.
