Tata Motors Zica is slated to make its India debut in January. The Zica was unveiled in the country in the first week of December and the technical details of the model are already out. Although the auto lovers in the country were expecting the Zica with automated manual transmission AMT boxes, Tata said that the Zica AMT is not on offer for now. However, it was later confirmed that Zica with AMT is also in the pipeline.

It now looks like Tata Zica AMT could also be coming to the market sooner that we expected. Various reports suggest that Tata Zica is likely to make its first appearance at the upcoming Auto Expo, 2016, which is scheduled to take place in Greater Noida, Delhi in February.

It is not sure which of the Zica models (petrol or diesel) will get the AMT boxes, but rumours are rife that the company could equip both petrol and diesel Zica with AMT boxes to stay ahead of the competition in the market.

Poised to face off with Maruti Celerio, Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat in India, under the hood, Tata Zica gets 1.2-litre three-cylinder DOHC aluminium motor and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine.

While the petrol engine is tuned to dish out 83.8bhp of power at 6000 rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3500 rpm, the diesel mill is capable of putting out 69bhp of power 4000 rpm and 140Nm of torque between 1800-3000 rpm. In both variants of Tata Zica, the transmission will be taken care of by a five speed manual gearbox.
