Tata's Zest sedan is speculated to make its India launch this August. The latest buzz is that the Tata Motors will be launching Zest sedan in different variants and the base variant will get a less powerful diesel engine.

Tata Motors, which is targeting all strata of the society with the launch of new cars, will also introduce a less powerful variant of the 1.3 Multijet engine in its upcoming Zest, in order to bring down the cost of the vehicle in the country, according to a new report of Zigwheels. The base variant, which will get power from the aforementioned diesel motor will not be having the features like alloy wheels, the Harman audio system, airbags or ABS. The engine in the base variant of Zest would generate a power of 75PS at 4,000 RPM and a torque of 190 Nm at 1,750 RPM.

Apparently, Tata is also considering a fixed geometry turbocharger for this variant instead of a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT), which is expected to come in other variants of Zest. The report also added that Tata's upcoming hatchback Bolt is also likely to get the same engine proportion.

From what we know so far, the other models of Zest will be powered by a 1.3 litre Quadrajet motor, producing 90 PS power at 4,000 RPM and 200 Nm torque at 1,750-3,000 RPM and 1.2 litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged Revotron engine, which can churn out a power of 85 PS at 5,000 RPM and a peak torque of 140 Nm at 1,750-3,000 RPM. It is likely to accommodate features like projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, 15-inch alloy wheels, reverse parking sensor and corner stability control.

On the safety front, the car is likely to get dual airbags, ABS and EBD.

Auto enthusiasts in the country have been waiting patiently to see the launch of Zest in India since its first appearance at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014. Tata Motors, which is betting big on the car market will also announce the launch of its Bolt hatchback in the coming months. Zest is likely to make its debut in the domestic auto market in August with an expected price tag ranging from ₹6 lakh-₹8 lakh. When launched, Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent will be the main opponents of Tata Zest in the country.
