The Tiago, the first model to feature Impact design language of Tata Motors, has already gained a foothold in the highly competitive Indian hatchback segment and the car has raked in over 50,000 bookings so far.

The Tiago, which has been witnessing overwhelming response since its entry into the market in April this year, currently commands a waiting period of up to four months for some of the variants, reported ET Auto.

Powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol and a 1.05-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine under the hood, the Tiago has crossed over 40,000 bookings. The petrol variant of the Tiago churns out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, while the diesel mill produces 69bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Buoyed by the success of the Tiago, Tata is also expected to bring new variants of this hatchback to the Indian market. Tata is said to be working on the automated manual Transmission (AMT) variant of the Tiago along with more powerful version of the hatchback, which would be monikered as Tiago Sport.

The Tiago is one of the models from Tata's table to clock sales of more than 4,000 units in the past two years. In September alone, the Tiago hatchback has found 4,557 takers in India, leading to 24 percent growth to 14,601 units as against 11,732 units in last year during the same period.

Priced in the range of Rs 3.20 lakh to Rs 4.81 lakh for petrol variants and Rs 3.94 lakh to Rs 5.60 lakh for diesel models (ex-showroom Delhi), the Tiago is expected to become dearer this festive season.
