Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, along with 19 other ministers, met J Jayalalithaa at her residence in Chennai on Wednesday afternoon. He is expected to resign so as to make way for the AIADMK chief, who was acquitted in a ₹66 crore disproportinate assets case a couple of days ago, to become the state's Chief Minister once again.

After being convicted in a 19-year-old illegal assets case in September 2014, Jayalalithaa had resigned as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, handing over the charge to her loyalist Panneerselvam.

However, she is likely to return as the CM soon as the Karnataka High Court upheld her appeal on Monday and overturned Bengaluru's special court Bench's conviction, which sentenced her to four years in jail and slapped a fine of ₹100 crore.

Her three associates, VK Sasikala, VN Sudhakaran, and J Ilavarasi, were also acquitted by Karnataka HC Justice CR Kumaraswamy on Monday.
