Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma starrer "Talvar" had a good start at the box office. Despite facing competition from Akshay Kumar's "Singh Is Bliing" and Kapil Sharma's "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon", "Talvar" minted Rs 2.5 crore on Friday.

The film also minted Rs 50 lakh from paid preview, which was held on Thursday. "Talvar" box office collection stands at Rs 3 crore, after adding opening day and Thursday's paid preview income.

"#Talvar Thu previews 50 lacs, Fri 2.50 cr. Total: ₹ 3 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

The opening day box office collection of Meghna Gulzar's directorial film "Talvar" is better than several big budget movies released this year.

With limited face value and less number of screens (approximately 620 screens), "Talvar" fared extremely well on its opening day. The film is backed by rave reviews and strong word of mouth, which will help its opening weekend box office to improve further.

Meanwhile, the distributors of the film received huge response for paid previews, following which a screening was arranged on 1 October.

"This would mark to be the first time that a small budget film would be holding a preview catering to public demand," a source aware of the development told IANS.

"Talvar" is an investigative thriller based on the 2008 Aarushi Talwar murder case in Noida. The film features Irrfan, Konkona and Neeraj Kabi in pivotal roles, while Tabu is in a cameo appearance.
