Swine Flu: Death Toll Reaches 1000-Mark, 17,000 Diagnosed with H1N1 Virus

Swine flu has claimed 1000 lives until now with 39 new death cases being reported on Thursday. Meanwhile the reported number of individuals suffering from influenza has crossed the 17,000 mark.

As per Health Ministry sources, 965 patients affected by the H1N1 have lost their lives until 25 February evening and new cases of swine flu have been coming up from various states across the country including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, Nagaland and Bihar. 

The government has asked citizens not to worry as sufficient measures have been taken and arrangements are being made to stop the spread of the disease, according to Zee.  

The Health Ministry has solicited all the states in the country to ensure that all chemist shops have the Osetamivir drug used for the treatment of patients suffering from the virus. 

"We are supporting the state government. H1N1 virus is very much in the environment. What we have to do is to take protective measures and not to get panicked," Health Minister J P Nadda was quoted as saying.

Dismissing reports of shortage of vaccines in different states, Nadda said that adequate amount of vaccines have been allotted to all the states, and hospitals across the country are well equipped to combat the disease.

According to a latest study, it has been found that Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme and its units in various states have increased the monitoring of diseases related to flu in order to prevent fresh cases of swine flu.
