Sunil Narine to Miss India Series as West Indies Spinner is Called Back Home

India will not have to face the guiles of Sunil Narine during their series against the West Indies, after the WICB took a decision to bring back their premier off-spinner following the action furore during the Champions League T20 2014.

Narine was reported for a suspect action twice during the CLT20 2014 while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders, which led to him being banned from bowling in the final against the Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.

While the spinner would have been eligible to play for the West Indies in the series against India, the West Indies Cricket Board have decided to call Narine back in a bid to protect the bowler and rectify the perceived problems.

"The West Indies Cricket Board advised today that Sunil Narine has been withdrawn from the touring party for the upcoming series against India," said a statement released late on Friday.

"This came after discussions including Narine, the WICB selection panel and the West Indies team management. The withdrawal from the upcoming tour will allow Narine the opportunity to have his action assessed and plan his return to cricket."

West Indies chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd vented his frustrations at Narine being reported for a suspect action.

"I am disappointed that our best bowler could suddenly be out of the tour," said Lloyd. "I am quite disappointed about the procedure that surrounded the 'calling' of Sunil in the Champions League tournament.

"These things have the potential to disrupt the team's preparation for a critical series against India but we will have to overcome this hurdle.

"We would like some clarity from the authorities on what led to the present situation and the details as we move forward. I think there must be a better way of doing the right things."

India take on the West Indies in five ODIs, one T20I and three Test matches. The India team for the limited-overs series will be announced by the BCCI today.
