Star Season 1 Episode 1 air date, spoilers: Where to watch Fox's new musical TV show from Empire creators

After creating a powerful show like Empire, the award-winning director and creator, Lee Daniels has come back with a new musical drama, Star. Based on three girls who want to become famous singers, the show stars Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, Jude Demoreset, Brittany O'Grady and Ryan Destiny.

The show gives a preview of the two sisters – Star and Simone. After their mother's death, the two siblings undergo through different foster homes and face different hardships. Within the first 15 minutes of episode, Star gets out of her foster home, hunts down her sister, stabs a knife through the foster father back for sexually abusing Simone and runs away to Atlanta to seek shelter under her godmother, Carlotta Brown played by Latifah. Accompanying the sisters is Star's best friend Alexandra Crane, who runs away from her father's shadow.

Together the three head to Atlanta where they stay with Brown and help her with chores at her parlour. After finding out about a singing competition in the city, the three head to the competition only to find out that there are hardly any managers that could be pleased. After taking Cotton's advice, Carlotta's trans-daughter, Star heads to the strip club where she performs for Jahil Rivera, played by Benjamin Bratt, and wins an opportunity to perform for the musical crew.

In the pilot episode, viewers get to watch three musical performances where, time and again, it is reinforced that Star sings like her dead mother. Alright, we get it, her mother was a great singer as well but what about the other two singers? Simone's background is very questionable as she tries to escapes all questions about her past through drugs and alcohol. There is something clearly more to Simone's past than the sexual abuse as she is shown longing for a motherly figure in her life.

There is also a possible love story brewing between Alex and Derek, who live next door to the girls and is a Black Live Matter activist. Protective about the girls, Carlotta meets Rivera and warns him to stay away from Star. It is through the meeting that viewers understand that the two – Carlotta and Star's Mother were also managed by Rivera but they screwed things up and landed their careers and Rivera's career in a mess. So what exactly has happened? Will Star become her mother? Or does she fight all odds and become a star she is meant to be. Find all your answers on January 4, 2017 on Fox Channel at 9 PM EST.

The pilot episode has already been aired and is available here for viewing, the show will be available for Indian viewing as well. The show launches on Star World and Star World HD on December 22, 2016 and will air every Thursday at 9pm soon after the US telecast.
