When the entire nation is paying homage to late Lieutenant Colonel Niranjan Kumar, who was killed in a grenade blast in Pathankot on Sunday, the NSG officer has been insulted by some social media users.

A fake Facebook page with username Anwar Sadiq posted an insulting comment on the social media after news of the officer's death broke. 

"So, another troublemaker is also gone. Now government will pay and give a job to his wife and we commoners get nothing. Such a stinking Indian democracy, (sic)", reads the Malayalam comment.

According to the details available on the profile, Anwar works for a leading Malayalam daily and after this comment went viral, many netizens have been attacking the person for posting such an insensitive message.

Apart from Anwar, many others have also been posting negative comments about the late officer and some of them state that many people join army not due to their love for the nation, but to get money and alcohol.

Meanwhile, Niranjan's mortal remains were brought to his residence in Bengaluru on Monday morning and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other politicians paid homage to the brave officer. The martyr's remains were brought to his hometown in Palakkad on Monday evening by helicopter. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and many others will arrive in Palakkad to pay homage to the late officer. After performing the last rites, the cremation will be on Tuesday noon.

Niranjan, 34, son of Sivarajan and Rajeswari of Kalarickal in Elumbulassery, is survived by his wife Radhika and 2-year-old daughter Vismaya.

"Pained to know about the demise of Lt. Col. Niranjan of NSG during mopping out operations at Pathankot. The nation salutes his sacrifice," Home Minister Rajnath Singh wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, another martyr Gursewak Singh was cremated at 11 am on Monday in Ambala, Haryana.
