The Bollywood music director Shekhar Ravjiani's Tweet recently went viral on social media. This happened when he shared his claim of being 'exorbitantly' charged for the eggs whites he ordered at the Hyatt Regency in Ahmedabad. He was billed Rs 1,672, in case you didn't know.

The singer and composer took to Twitter to share the picture of the bill: "Rs. 1672 for 3 egg whites??? That was an Eggxorbitant meal." The post instantly triggered a debate on the price he was charged for something as basic as eggs.

Twitter wasn't too kind to him

The incident left Twitter users shocked to see three eggs which cost around Rs 15 billed at such a high price. At the time of reporting this instance, the tweet already had garnered over 1,000 retweets and 4.8k likes.

A Twitter user reacted saying, "Why do you visit a 5-star hotel when your pocket doesn't allow you."

Another Twitter user tweeted, "Here's a thing: Whenever we order at a 5-star property. We're well aware of the charges. If not; ASK while ordering so you don't get a shock. Just don't go to a 5-star mate, if you have a problem with the pricing. Let's not confuse luxury with basic needs. My 2-cents."

Singer Harshdeep Kaur took a compassionate stand and sort of sided with him by throwing in a pun in her tweet saying, "Ye toh eggstreamly shocking hai."

The hotel is yet to issue a statement on the controversy.

In July this year, actor Rahul Bose's was charged Rs 442.50 for two bananas at Chandigarh's JW Marriott Hotel. Rahul had posted a video about the incident on his Twitter account: "You have to see this to believe it. Who said fruit wasn't harmful to your existence? Ask the wonderful folks at @JWMarriottChd #goingbananas #howtogetfitandgobroke #potassiumforkings." After Rahul Bose's banana controversy, the JW Marriott Hotel was fined Rs 25,000 by Excise and Taxation Department of Chandigarh for violation of Section 11 of CGST (illegal collection of tax on an exempted item). Here's the video:

In another similar incident this year, a Twitter user Kartik Dhar had posted a bill with the caption: "2 eggs for Rs 1700 at the @FourSeasons Mumbai." Dhar tagged Rahul Bose with the caption, " Bhai Aandolan Karein (Shall we protest)?"
