Member of Parliament from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram constituency Shashi Tharoor's son Kanishk Tharoor tied the knot with Amanda Calderon in New York recently.

A Christian wedding took place at Grace Church in Manhattan on 15 August. The couple are now expected to go for a Hindu wedding in India in winter.

"The groom sets out to lose his independence on Independence Day!," Tharoor posted on Twitter along with the newly wed couple's picture.

Son of Tharoor and his first wife Tilottama Mukherji, Kanishk is a writer based in New York. His articles have been published in some leading dailies, including The National, The Guardian, The Caravan and The Hindu.

Kanishk has previously published short fiction "Tale of the Teahouse" and is currently working on a short fiction collection "Swimmer Among the Stars: Stories". His previous work has received accolades and won the Emily Belch award in 2008.

According to Poetry Foundation, Amanda, settled in New York, is a 2014 Emerging Poets Fellow at Poets House and is working on her first manuscript.
