Shadowhunters and Downworlders will forge an alliance in season 2 of the TV show.Facebook/Shadowhunters

The second installment of Freeform's hit TV series, Shahowhunters is set to return with its second installment on 2 January 2017 and when it does, the shadow world is expected to be chaotic and anarchist.

[Spoiler Alert]

To be sure, the cast members haven't revealed what fans can expect in the premiere episode of season 2 but suffice it to say this: unusual alliances will be formed.

According to Broadway World, shadowhunters and downworlders will forge a relationship in light of the recent events concerning Valentine and his army of destructive and dangerous followers.

The outlet also noted that season 2 of the TV show, based on Cassandra Clare's book series, The Mortal Instruments, will depict The Clave as an autocratic and highly paranoid establishment that turns against its own people.

At this juncture, a relationship between the shadowhunters and the downworlders does seem appropriate. However, it also signals a break from the past. Fans of the show will remember that shadhowhunters have always been deeply distrustful of downworlders, a prejudice Clary Frey struggled to understand in season 1.

While relationships and prejudices continue to change in season 2 of the Freeform TV series, it remains to be seen if this leads to infighting between the two groups.

The article on Broadway World stated, "Loyalties will be tested, unlikely bonds will be made and relationships will be pushed to the limit as the Shadowhunters and their Downworlder friends make their way in a new world."

Shadowhunters season 2 premieres on Monday, 2 January 2017, on Freeform.
