The doubles pairing of Sania Mirza and Martin Hingis could not have asked for a better result as they clinched the Miami Open, after defeating second seeded Russian pair, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina. The Indo-Swiss pair won the match in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.
This is not the first title they won after they decided to play together in the WTA doubles circuit, as they turned victorious during the tournament in Indian Wells as well.
The pair was keen to maintain their record of not losing a single set ever since they have become a pair. They kept their heads up even when they were trailing 5-2 during the first set. Sania and Hingis then showed their class in the second set to clinch the title.
"The most important thing is that we never stopped believing we're a great team. They played a great set to get us to that position, 5-2 down. Then we just tried to stay in there and get our chances. We just built on every point, which is what we did well last week too," PTI quoted Hingis.
Sania is currently ranked number 3 in world doubles, but could move up the ladder and reach the number one spot, as she has 7495 points at present and is not far behind world number one Sara Errani, who has 7640 points.
Hingis, on the other hand, lies fourth with 6115 points.
Sania, who had primarily started her career as a singles player has been one of the best Indian tennis stars, has an impressive haul of 25 doubles titles.
Meanwhile in the men's singles, Novak Djokovic put up an impressive performance to defeat Andy Murray to clinch the Miami Open title for the fifth time in his career with the score reading 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-0.
It seems to be a psychological roadblock which has hit Murray, who has lost against the Serb in the last seven matches, including the final.
This loss against Djokovic is his third in 2015, as he finished runners up to the Serb in the Australian Open final and Indian Wells last week.
