Samsung tipped to launch Gear S2, Gear VR in India this month

Leading smartphone maker Samsung is reportedly planning to bring the flagship Gear S2 series smartwatch to India later this month.

Technology blog Phone Radar, citing sources, has claimed that Samsung will launch the much awaited Gear S2 by January end, but it is not sure whether the company will release just one or all the three -- Gear S2, S2 3G and S2 Classic -- smartwatches. 

For the uninitiated, Gear S2 and S2 Classic houses the same internal hardware such as Samsung's proprietary Tizen OS backed by 1.0GHz dual-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, 250 mAh battery that can power the device for two to three days under mixed usage.

The key difference between Gear S2 and S2 Classic is that the former comes in dark gray case with a dark gray band and silver case with a white band, whereas the latter ships with black case with a leather band.

On the other hand, Gear S2 3G too houses almost the same internal hardware except the battery. It ships with bigger 300 mAh capacity battery so that it has more juice to act as a standalone communication device.

All the three Samsung smartwatches boast of IP68 water-and-dust resistant certifications, health-kit apps such heart-rate sensor, S Health Nike+Running and also feature NFC, Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi based connectivity features.

Beside the Gear S2 series, Samsung is also expected to launch the Gear VR set for around Rs 10,000. It is compatible with top-end flagship phablets such as Galaxy Note 4, Note 5 and S6 Edge+.
