Smartphone leader Samsung has officially launched the long-rumoured Galaxy Mega 2 in select Asian markets.

The new Galaxy Mega 2 has been released in Thailand and Malaysia, reported PhoneArena.

Galaxy Mega 2 sports 6.0-inch HD (1,280x720p) screen and ships with Android 4.4 KitKat OS powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor (type unspecified) backed by 1.5GB RAM , 16GB inbuilt memory with options of expansion up to 64GB and a 2,800mAh battery with Ultra Power Saving mode feature, seen in the flagship Galaxy devices.

Other stipulated features include 8.0-megapixel camera with CMOS sensor, full HD video recording, auto-focus, LED flash, 2.1-megapixel snapper on the front, Bluetooth v4.0, NFC, 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 + 5GHz), GPS/GLONASS and a USB v2.0 port.

Though there is no word on the availability of the device in other markets, many believe Samsung is most likely to launch the mid-range phablet in India sooner than later, considering that the company had released the first generation devices last year.

Once released in India, it will be competing with Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, Lenovo K900, Nokia Lumia 1320 and other low-cost domestic smartphones.
