Samsung is going to make the most out of its next flagship smartphone after losing the glamour with its Galaxy S5 smartphone this year.

If the rumours are to be believed, the GS5 successor is going to be a huge development, a hint of which is seen from its codename Project Zero. One of the major developments spotted in leaked images of the Galaxy S6 is the design.

Here's a roundup of all the upgrades we expect to see in the 2015 flagship smartphone by Samsung.

Design

Having a unique and an appealing smartphone design is one of the sacred mantras of smartphone's success. Samsung may be working vigorously on the design concept of the Galaxy S6 as new reports suggest a metal unibody holding all the other parts together.

The purported images of the Galaxy S6's metal chassis were shared by a French site Nowhere Else, showing a single aluminium base-plate during different stages of manufacture. This means the plastic structure is finally out of the picture after five generations of Galaxy flagship smartphones.

Display

There have been several reports pointing towards a more prominent Quad HD display for the Galaxy S6. After rivals like LG and Samsung's own Galaxy Note 4 getting the massive upgrade in resolution, it is likely that the Galaxy S6 will have eye-popping 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution display.

As for the display's size, there are several possibilities. Samsung has grown from 4 inches to 5.1 inches in the Galaxy S to S5 series. It is safe to assume that the display size will slightly increase up to 5.2-inch or 5.3 inches. Even so, the Galaxy S6 will measure almost same as the Galaxy S5 as Samsung will increase the display size by reducing the thick bezels as seen in the GS5.

Going any higher than the current flagship size will confuse buyers with Samsung's Galaxy Note series, which is an important category for the Korean tech giant to play with.

Camera

The most prominent leak on the Samsung Galaxy S6's camera was in a benchmark listing that showed 20mp for the rear and 5mp shooter in the front. This is a sensible upgrade considering the Galaxy S5 packed 16mp.

Under the hood

Samsung's release for the Galaxy S6 is around the same time as Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 and Snapdragon 810 CPU's launch in smartphones. This suggests either of the new SoCs will appear in the Galaxy S6 and AnTuTu benchmark listing suggested a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 with an octa-core CPU.

But there are reports suggesting two variants of the Galaxy S6 with different processors. Besides the Qualcomm-developed CPU, Samsung will differently run Exynos 7420 64-bit Octa-Core processor in some of its units. The availability of these variants will be decided based on the markets.

Other specs to power the GS5-successor include a 3GB RAM, Adreno 430 GPU, LTE Category 6 modem, 32GB internal storage

Release Date

There may be a sense of confidence in the specs-related leaks, but there are conflicts with regards to Galaxy S6's release. Several reports are indicating the smartphone's release next month at the CES 2015 event. Some reports also hinted a later release in March during the MWC 2015 event. Either ways, there isn't a long wait to find out the product launch at any of the coveted electronics events.
