Anushka Shetty's "Rudramadevi" (Rudhramadevi) has recorded fantastic figures at the US box office and has surpassed the total collection record of Vijay's "Puli" in the country.

After SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali", "Puli" and "Rudramadevi" are next big budget period drama films. The Anushka Shetty starrer was almost equal to Vijay's film in terms of their hype, production, promotion and volume of its release. Trade analyst down south predicted that "Rudramadevi", which released in theatres after "Puli", would break its US collection records.

Having clashed with "Singh Is Bling", "Puli" debuted to an average response and collected $191,689 (Rs 1.25 crore) from 89 screens at the US box office in its opening weekend. Due to its average business, the movie was withdrawn from a large number of theatres in the next week. The Vijay starrer has reportedly collected $211,502 (Rs 1.37 crore) at the US box office in its lifetime.

Released in theatres a week later, "Rudramadevi" debuted to a fantastic response and collected $719,529 (Rs 4.66 crore) from 135 screens at the US box office in its opening weekend. Having maintained rock-steady pace in the following weeks, the movie has collected a total of $945,404 (Rs 6.20 crore) in the country in 21 days. It is still doing well in a limited number of screens.

"Rudramadevi" has beaten the lifetime collection record of "Puli" at the US box office. That's not all, its US total collection (Rs 6.20 crore) is almost equal to the business (Rs 6.57 crore) of "Puli" in four key international markets like US, Canada, UK and Malaysia. But its overseas total (Rs 12 crore) is half of the business of the Vijay starrer (Rs 24 crore).

"Puli" has been made on a whopping budget of Rs 118 crore and the movie is estimated to collect Rs 93 crore at the worldwide box office in three weeks. "Rudramadevi" has been produced with a budget of Rs 80 crore and is estimated to have collected Rs 83 crore at the global box office in 21 days.
