Disha Salian Death Case: '100% Hope Truth Will Come Out,' Says Father Of SSR's Ex-Manager After Bombay HC Directs CBI Probe

Satish Salian, father of late celebrity manager Disha Salian, on Wednesday said he would continue his fight for justice after the Bombay High Court ordered a CBI probe into his daughter's death in 2020.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the CBI to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Disha Salian, who was the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Speaking to IANS, Satish Salian welcomed the court's verdict and thanked those who supported his legal battle.

"I expressed my gratitude to the court, and I am grateful to all of you. Because of you all, we got justice. It is because of Nilesh Ojha and his team that I see today's victory. Just as we are fighting now, we will continue to fight in the future as well," he told IANS.

He further said that the truth would ultimately prevail and those found responsible would face consequences.

"See, if we are wrong, then tell us we are wrong. If they are wrong, tell them they are wrong. Now, I will say that truth never loses; truth always wins. And I have 100 per cent belief in my lawyer, Nilesh Ojha. Whoever has done this is very wrong. They will suffer for this," Salian said.

Meanwhile, while pronouncing the order, the court clarified that no individual should be treated as an accused unless the Investigating Officer finds sufficient material against them during the probe.

The order came while hearing a petition filed by Satish Salian, Disha's father, alleging lapses by the Mumbai Police in the investigation into his daughter's death.

Speaking to IANS after the order, advocate Nilesh Ojha, counsel for Satish Salian, said the court had directed the CBI to record the petitioner's statement, register an FIR, appoint a senior officer to conduct the investigation and take custody of all relevant records from Malvani Police Station.

"The court has made it clear that action must be taken against anyone against whom evidence is found. At the same time, no person should be named as an accused without evidence. It has also clarified that if the CBI files a closure report, we will have the right to object and file a protest petition. We have full faith that truth will prevail," Ojha told IANS.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday transferred the investigation into the 2020 death of former celebrity manager Disha Salian to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), directing the agency to register an FIR and record the statement of her father, Satish Salian.

A bench headed by Justice Sarang Kotwal passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Satish Salian, who had sought an independent investigation into his daughter's death and alleged foul play. His advocate Nilesh Ojha also alleged that Mumbai Police had failed to register his complaint.

The court directed the senior CBI officer in charge of the Mumbai bureau to appoint an investigating officer. The officer will record Satish Salian's statement and investigate all aspects surrounding the circumstances of Disha's death.

The High Court, however, made it clear that no individual should be treated as an accused unless the investigation finds sufficient material to raise reasonable suspicion against them.

The court further directed that if the investigation establishes that an offence has been committed, an appropriate report should be filed before the competent court. If the probe finds that no offence has been made out, the CBI will have to submit an appropriate summary. In such a situation, Satish Salian will have the right to challenge the report through a protest petition.

The court also directed Malwani Police Station officials to hand over all relevant documents and articles related to the case to the CBI investigating officer.

What happened to Disha Salian?

Disha Salian, who had worked as a manager and represented late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area.

Mumbai Police had registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and, following its inquiry, concluded that Disha had died by suicide. The state government has maintained that the inquiries indicated suicide and found no foul play.

Satish Salian, however, sought a fresh investigation, alleging lapses in the police probe and raising questions over the circumstances surrounding his daughter's death.

The state had also questioned the delay of more than five years in filing the petition. The High Court observed that Disha's parents may not have recovered from the shock of losing their daughter, which could explain the delay. The court also noted that authorities themselves had reopened the inquiry three to four years after her death.

With the latest order, the CBI will now take over the investigation and examine the circumstances surrounding Disha Salian's death.

CJP calls off September 5 Delhi protest after Centre assures withdrawal of cases against students

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Tuesday withdrew its proposed September 5 protest march in Delhi after the Centre assured the Supreme Court that cases registered against students in connection with the July protests would be withdrawn.

The Supreme Court subsequently quashed the FIRs filed against protesters between July 20 and 25, directing that cases against students across states and Union Territories be closed. The relief, however, does not extend to those with criminal antecedents.

Centre assures no fresh cases

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that the Centre, along with the governments of Bihar, Assam, West Bengal and Maharashtra, had moved applications seeking to quash FIRs linked to the student protests.

The Centre also assured the court that no fresh cases would be registered in connection with the protest events between July 20 and July 25. The applications were filed to honour the assurance given to CJP leaders on July 25.

The Supreme Court allowed the withdrawal of the cases, while permitting Delhi Police to pursue a separate FIR involving 2,873 individuals with serious criminal antecedents.

CJP withdraws September 5 march

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das informed the top court that the organisation had decided to withdraw its September 5 protest following the Centre's assurance and the Supreme Court's order.

The proposed march was scheduled to begin at India Gate and proceed towards the Delhi Police Headquarters. The organisation had earlier said that families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide and alleged victims of police action during the July protests would participate in the demonstration.

The CJP had called for the march after accusing the Centre of delaying the withdrawal of FIRs against student protesters and failing to provide a written assurance on commitments made during negotiations on July 25.

Compensation for affected families

The Centre also told the Supreme Court that it remains committed to providing compensation to families of students who died by suicide following the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination.

The government sought three months to work out the compensation modalities, and the Supreme Court directed the Centre to complete the process within that period.

The latest development brings the immediate dispute over the September 5 protest to a close, although implementation of the court's directions and the compensation process will now be closely watched.

Gold prices remained under pressure on Wednesday, September 2, with the yellow metal extending its decline amid heightened volatility in global markets and renewed concerns over the impact of US-Iran tensions on crude oil prices and inflation.

Gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) fell for the seventh consecutive session. October gold futures declined Rs 1,559, or 1.03 per cent, to Rs 1,50,170 per 10 grams, compared with Tuesday's close of Rs 1,51,729. December futures also fell Rs 1,753, or 1.14 per cent, to Rs 1,51,540 per 10 grams.

The decline in gold comes as rising crude oil prices and concerns over inflation have made investors cautious. Higher energy prices could keep inflation elevated and influence expectations around interest rates, putting pressure on bullion prices.

The price of 24K gold in Delhi stood at around Rs 1,50,090 per 10 grams, while 22K gold was priced at Rs 1,37,583 per 10 grams.

The video showed a series of negative comments from men targeting her appearance and body, while comments from women were largely encouraging, with several praising her looks and offering words of support.

In the caption, she explained what she actually saw in those contrasting reactions. "The reel says men vs women. But all I really see is the kind of community women can create for each other," she added.

She wrote, "Women hyping women. Women telling each other 'you look amazing.' Women saying 'I needed to see this today.' Women making complete strangers feel seen."

Anshula also spoke about how seeing other women confidently embrace themselves can have a ripple effect, helping someone else feel comfortable doing the same.

US strikes Iran again: Trump warns Tehran of 'much harder' attack as tensions escalate

US forces launched fresh strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, marking the second American attack in two days and further escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

The strikes targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) positions, including air defence sites, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM). The US military said the operation followed attempted attacks by the IRGC on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and American service members in the region.

Explosions were reported across several Iranian coastal areas, including Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Chabahar, Jask and Sirik. Iranian authorities had not immediately released details about the extent of damage or possible casualties.

An IRGC spokesperson warned that the United States would "regret its new attacks", while Tehran threatened further disruption to oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump warns Iran of bigger attack

US President Donald Trump described the strikes as "large and powerful" and said they were carried out in response to Iran's alleged attempt to place sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz and its firing of eight missiles towards a US military base in Jordan.

Trump warned Iran that it would face an even stronger response if it retaliated.

He said the US had removed or detonated the mines in the strait and that all eight Iranian missiles fired towards the US base had been intercepted.

Iran threatens strong response

Iranian officials have warned that Tehran would respond to the US strikes. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said at a regional summit in Kyrgyzstan that Iran would reciprocate immediately if Washington failed to honour its commitments under a June memorandum intended to halt the conflict.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also warned that if Iran was prevented from exporting oil through the Persian Gulf, other countries would not be able to export oil either.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei accused Washington of making excessive demands and said Iran would use all its capabilities, both on the battlefield and through diplomatic channels.

Second US attack in two days

The latest operation came two days after US forces struck Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz, ending a month-long lull in fighting.

Iran described Sunday's operation as a deadly attack and retaliated by firing ballistic missiles towards US bases in Jordan. Jordan said its armed forces intercepted eight missiles that entered its airspace early Monday.

US Central Command said the IRGC had been preparing to launch rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz. Iran acknowledged casualties in the US strikes and warned Washington of military and economic consequences.

The latest exchange marks another escalation in the conflict, which began on February 28 and has continued intermittently for more than six months.

US considers fresh sanctions on Iran

The military escalation comes as Washington prepares additional economic pressure on Tehran.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US was likely to announce fresh sanctions against Iranian banks and was also considering measures against aircraft-leasing companies and other entities doing business with the IRGC.

The renewed military confrontation and threat of further sanctions have also revived concerns about disruptions to global oil supplies. Around 20 per cent of the world's oil normally passes through the Strait of Hormuz, although commercial traffic remains significantly below pre-war levels.

India's GDP Growth Hits 7.8% Amid Global Economic Turmoil

India has emerged as the fastest growing major economy, posting a 7.8% GDP growth amid the worst global economic challenges in over a decade. The past thirteen months tested economies worldwide with steep American tariffs, an oil shock, and supply chain disruptions, but India outpaced all in recovery and expansion.

The hurdles were particularly tough for India, given its nearly 90% crude oil import dependency and the strategic significance of the Strait of Hormuz for its energy and trade routes. Yet, India accelerated its growth from 6.9% a year ago to 7.8%, well above the Reserve Bank's projection of 7% and surpassing growth rates of China at 4.3% and the US at 2.1%.

Key sectors drove this growth: manufacturing expanded by 9.2%, services by 10%, consumption increased 7.1%, and investment surged 11.9%. This balanced surge overturned the longstanding notion that India must choose between industrial and services growth, as both sectors grew robustly.

Foreign investment inflows reached $30.7 billion, the highest in at least fifteen years, with net inflows up 64%, signalling strong investor confidence and commitment to the Indian economy.

In contrast to past vulnerabilities, including the 1991 oil crisis and the 'Fragile Five' categorization in 2013, India is now the world's fourth largest economy, closing fast on the third. Over 250 million Indians have risen out of multidimensional poverty, inflation remains controlled at 4.45% despite oil shocks, and foreign exchange reserves have doubled.

The government's decisive policies, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, played a crucial role. Simplifying GST amid rising tariffs put money in Indians' pockets, capital spending on infrastructure continued unabated, and trade agreements expanded export opportunities.

Decades of structural reforms helped sustain this performance. The inflation target is enshrined in law; the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code strengthened banks; GST unified the national market; welfare schemes directly reached millions through Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and mobile technology; and initiatives like Make in India and Production Linked Incentives encouraged manufacturing growth.

Responding to critics, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the nation's collective strength rather than personal credit for the growth achievement. He urged citizens to maintain momentum towards self-reliance and Atmanirbhar Bharat, aiming for a developed India by 2047, India's centenary of independence.

Reforms continue with over 1,500 obsolete laws repealed and 40,000 compliances removed, improving ease of doing business. The Reserve Bank's annual growth forecast of 6.7% may well be exceeded given the current quarter's performance.

India has faced its harshest global economic test and emerged as the best-performing economy worldwide, defying pessimistic forecasts and showcasing resilient and sustained growth under strong leadership.

Industry insiders reveal that Parvathy portrays a woman who joins the police force after her cop husband passes away.

Premanand Maharaj warns 'Hanuman Ansh' makers against distorting Neem Karoli Baba's life

Bollywood film Hanuman Ansh has been embroiled in a massive controversy weeks after its release. It all started after spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj spoke about the film being made on the life of Neem Karoli Baba, calling it a potential form of service while cautioning the filmmakers against distorting the revered saint's life for entertainment or popularity. During a satsang, Maharaj stressed that the portrayal should remain respectful and inspire devotion, detachment and spiritual knowledge among viewers.

During the satsang, the director of Hanuman Ansh, Vishal Chaturvedi, reportedly asked Maharaj about making a film on the life of Neem Karoli Baba. The filmmaker wanted to know whether bringing the life of such a revered saint to the screen, while remaining committed to the spiritual path, could itself be considered a form of service.

Premanand Maharaj gave an encouraging response, saying, "Yes, this can also become a form of service."

Maharaj explained that the life of a spiritually accomplished figure such as Neem Karoli Baba cannot be treated like an ordinary fictional story. According to him, those attempting to portray such personalities on screen need to exercise caution.

According to a report in News18 Hindi, he pointed out that people cannot compare their own spiritual state with that of highly detached and God-realised saints. For that reason, filmmakers need to be particularly careful when recreating their lives through performances and cinematic storytelling.

The concern, he suggested, is that creative decisions made to increase the entertainment value of a film or attract a larger audience could end up creating a false impression of the saint.

For Maharaj, the success of a film about a saint should not be measured only by its popularity or entertainment value. Its deeper impact on the audience is equally important.

He said such a portrayal should leave viewers with feelings of detachment, devotion and spiritual knowledge. The life of the saint should encourage people to reflect on their own lives and draw inspiration from the person's faith, sacrifice and spiritual journey.

He also stressed that filmmakers should avoid depicting a saint in ways that conflict with the person's actual character, conduct or spiritual stature.

Premanand Maharaj further cautioned against introducing material solely to make a film more commercially appealing or socially popular. For a filmmaker, box-office success, audience numbers and dramatic impact may naturally matter. But when a film deals with the life of a saint, Maharaj's message was that preserving the person's dignity should take priority.

According to him, presenting something that contradicts the actual conduct of a great spiritual figure cannot simply be dismissed as creative freedom. He suggested that such a portrayal could even be considered an offense.

The message from Premanand Maharaj was clear: cinema can become a means of service when it introduces people to the lives and teachings of great saints, but the intention behind the storytelling matters.

ISI Reduces Local Recruitment in J&K, Prefers Pakistani Terrorists for Operations

Pakistan has significantly increased recruitment into Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Tayiba over recent months to intensify terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. However, recent high-level meetings in Pakistan have decided to minimize reliance on local recruits from J&K.

Most terrorists sent to Jammu and Kashmir are now Pakistani nationals, as ISI considers locals less sustainable for prolonged missions compared to Pakistan-origin militants. Pakistani terrorists can endure long waits in dense forests and strike only when ordered.

An Intelligence Bureau official confirmed a sharp drop in recruiting local terrorists to fight alongside Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Tayiba in J&K.

The ISI believes the conflict in Jammu and Kashmir will be prolonged, so Pakistani terrorists are deemed more suitable due to their endurance and hardened experience relative to locals.

Additionally, locals often surrender after family interventions, which harms ISI's narrative since they may reveal operational details to security forces. Currently, there are very few local militants active in Jammu and Kashmir.

The elimination of local terrorists and sustained encounters have weakened groups like Hizbul Mujahideen, severely damaging local morale and reducing participation in militancy.

Youths once inspired by figures like Burhan Wani became demoralised after his killing and subsequent operations.

Following the abrogation of Article 370, peace largely returned to the region, leading to development and new opportunities for youth, further discouraging local involvement in militancy or stone pelting.

The ISI has observed that locals now prioritise their livelihoods over terror activities, as a Kashmir study group noted locals are less resilient, often caught or killed within two to three months, and tend to break during interrogations, compromising terror networks.

While Pakistani militants conduct more direct operations, ISI creates smokescreen groups with local members that claim responsibility digitally, ensuring plausible deniability for Pakistan. These groups have secular names like The Resistance Front, Kashmir Tigers, All Tigers, and People's Anti Fascist Front.

These fronts take credit for attacks actually carried out by Lashkar-e-Tayiba or Jaish-e-Mohammad. Although local ground involvement has declined, ISI continues to recruit local over ground workers (OWGs).

OWGs, being locals, provide crucial logistics and shelter to foreign terrorists due to their familiarity with J&K's geography. Their knowledge of actual operations is limited, reducing the risk of leaks to Indian security forces.
