Iconic bike maker Royal Enfield is reportedly developing two new engines to power its upcoming two new models, claims a new report.
A recent report of MotorBeam, citing sources close to the development, claims that Royal Enfield is working on new 600cc and 400cc engines which will generate enormous torque. Going by the words of the original publisher, the 600cc engine is estimated to generate a torque of 60 Nm which is 19 Nm more than the Current 500cc engine with 41 Nm. On the other hand, the 400cc engine, which is also said to be in the work, will be tuned to develop 40 Nm.
Royal Enfield, which is currently in its expansion mode in the country does not intend to launch multi-cylinder bikes now.
The report also notes that both the engines are likely to come with fuel injection. Both the bikes with new engines are likely to be based on the company's vest motorcycle Continental GT. It is not clear by when the two-wheeler enthusiasts in the country will be able to ride the new models of Royal Enfield, but the reports on the web indicate that a late 2015 launch can be expected. Previous reports had noted that the upcoming bike with 400cc engine from the premium motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield is likely to fall in the price range of ₹1.25-₹1.5 lakh.
The company currently sells Bullet, Classic, Thunderbird and Continental GT models in India. In November, Royal Enfield reported a 52% jump in total sales in at 27,542 units as against 18,131 units in the same month last year. The domestic sales of bikes increased by 53% during the period to 27,198 units as against 17,752 units in the corresponding month last year.
