The Tiago hatchback bearing new Impact design language of Tata Motors continues to wonder in sales chart of the automaker. The Mumbai-based carmaker overtook Mahindra & Mahindra as the third largest passenger vehicle seller in India in November.

Tata Motors sold 12,736 units of its vehicles in November. Mahindra & Mahindra managed to sell only 12,707 units of vehicles in the same period. Though the difference is wafer thin, Tata Motors is likely to retain the lead with increased sales of the Tiago. On the other hand, Mahindra has been struggling with a decline in sales of its SUVs.

Mahindra Scorpio and Bolero sales saw a decline of 41 percent and 42 percent, respectively, in November, on a month-on-month basis, reports ET Auto. The UV specialist sold 3,099 units of Scorpio and 5,257 units of Bolero last month. The status for recently launched KUV100 and TUV300 is also not different. The compact SUVS witnessed a month-on-month sales drop of 55 percent at 1,183 units and 1,357 units, respectively, last month. With demonetisation having apparently dented rural vehicle sales, Mahindra's sales may further take a hit.

On the other hand, Tata Zest sales dropped 18 percent in November 2016 compared to the same period last year, while Tata Bolt's situation is even worse with a fall of 46 percent. However, Tiago single handily pushing Tata Motor's passenger vehicles sales. The hatchback found 6,008 takers in November and helped Tata Motors register a 22 percent increase in PV sales last month.

The elevation to the third place comes after Tata Motors bettered its position from fifth to fourth in October 2016 beating Honda cars India. Tata Motors, which was once the third-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in the country, had slipped to the fifth position due to a slowdown in terms of sales in the industry between 2012 and 2015. Lack of major car launches had also deepened the misery. Now, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are the two companies ahead of Tata Motors.
