India celebrates its 76th Republic Day today, January 26, 2024, also known as Gantantra Diwas. This day is observed with great enthusiasm across the nation to honor the adoption of the Constitution, which came into effect on January 26, 1950.
Republic Day is not merely about unfurling the national flag or watching the iconic parade at India Gate. It is also a time to remember and pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, ensuring that we could live in a sovereign and democratic nation.
Earlier today, President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the National Flag at Kartavya Path, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute at the National War Memorial at 10:30 AM. The celebrations showcased India's cultural diversity with 16 tableaux representing various states, Union Territories, and Central Government departments participating in the grand parade.
In New Delhi, the parade displayed a magnificent blend of India's military strength and cultural richness. Honourable dignitaries, including international guests, Indian leaders, and the general public, gathered to witness this momentous occasion.
This year's parade featured 16 tableaux from states and Union Territories, along with 15 tableaux from central ministries, departments, and organizations, rolling down the ceremonial boulevard. The event symbolized a confluence of virasat (heritage) and vikas (development), highlighting the essence of the nation.
Indonesia's President, Prabowo Subianto, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In a special highlight, military contingents from Indonesia participated in a march-past, further strengthening the bond between the two nations.
On this special occasion, many Bollywood celebrities have shared their heartfelt wishes on social media.
