With the demand increasing for French auto-maker Renault's new small car offering Kwid in India, it looks like the waiting period for the model is stretching even up to 10 months from the previously reported six months.
Renault Kwid, the latest entrant in the small-car segment with an SUV-like stance, has struck a chord with the people in India. The company, which rolled out the Kwid with a surprise price tag of Rs 2.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), now seems to be facing a tough time in keeping production of the Kwid as compared to the demand for the model.
A new report on Rushlane indicates the waiting period of Kwid in some cities has been stretched to 10 months. This is likely to get extended by another two-three weeks as the company has temporarily halted production at its facility in Chennai due to incessant rain in the city. Renault Kwid, which started its India journey in September this year, has raked in over 70,000 bookings in the country so far. The company had earlier said Kwid's production had been increased to meet rising demand.
The Kwid is the first car to be built on the CMF-A platform, and is offered in four variants — Standard, RxE, RxL and RxT. Under the hood, Kwid gets a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp and a peak torque of 72Nm with a five-speed manual gearbox. Kwid offers the best-in-class mileage at 25.17kmpl.
