Renault India has launched one of the most anticipated launches of the year, the Kwid, on 24 September at an almost unbelievable starting price of Rs 2.56 lakh. The price of the car made waves in the industry and gave headache to the like of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai being main rivals.
Now, The Economic Times says Sumit Sawhney, MD and Country Chief Executive Officer, Renault India has hinted at exporting the Kwid.
"There has been phenomenal response for pre-bookings. The car will hit showrooms from October 7", Sawhney said.
"It is a global car. Going forward, it will be getting moved into other countries in different forms. Whether CKD (as a Completely Knocked Down unit), CBU (Completely Built Unit) or anything..." added Sawhney.
"We are working on certain projects like Latin American side, Africa. Because it has to be a small car market. May be three months down the line I may be able to tell you where this car will be exported," he said.
When asked about the volume sales of the company in future, he said the companby planned to garner five per cent market share by 2017.
Launched in four variants -- Standard, RxE, RxL and RxT -- the Renault Kwid is powered by a 799cc 3-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp and a peak torque of 72Nm mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Kwid is the first car to be built on the CMF-A platform and became the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country with 25.17kmpl.
