French auto maker Renault is reportedly planning to bring a new SUV – based on its globally popular crossover Captur – to India to challenge the dominance of homegrown UV maker Mahindra and Korean auto major Hyundai.

An ET Auto report reveals that Renault, which challenged Mahindra Scorpio with its Duster, is now planning to bring a new SUV to the sub-continent market. The SUV, which is inspired by the company's popular global crossover –  the Captur –  has been codenamed HHA and is likely to reach India by October 2017.

Although the Captur is based on the Clio platform, the seven-seater SUV HHA, which is coming to India, will be underpinned by the Duster and Lodgy platform (M0 platform), to keep the cost under check. The Captur will rival Mahindra's XUV500 SUV, Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Honda BR-V and will share similarities with Duster and Lodgy.

Renault is also readying a faclifted avatar of its popular Duster which is likely to see the light of the day this fiscal. The French auto maker also also plans to launch an MPV and an SUV based on the CMF-A platform, following the launch of Captur SUV in India.
