Real Madrid have announced that their forward, James Rodriguez, has successfully undergone an operation on his right foot after sustaining a broken metatarsal during the Los Blancos' 2-1 win over Sevilla in the La Liga on 4 February.

The 23-year-old, who scored the opening goal against Sevilla, was immediatly taken to the hospital after he was forced off the pitch in the 27th minute of the game.

X-rays revealed that the Colombian had broken the fifth metatarsal in his right foot, and was in need of an immediate surgery.

Rodriguez finally went under the knife on Thursday, and now European champions have confirmed that Rodriguez surgery's was successful.

"Real Madrid's James Rodríguez has undergone surgery on the fracture he suffered in the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. The operation was a complete success and was carried out by Doctor Mariano de Prado under the supervision of Doctor Jesus Olmo, the Real Madrid C. F. Doctor," read a statement on the club's official website.

Although the length of Rodriguez's recovery period is still unknown, reports in Spain indicate that the Colombian is going to be out of action for at least two months.

If these reports are true then the forward, who completed a €80 million switch from AS Monaco to Real Madrid, following his impressive performances in the 2014 World Cup, will be missing a total of nine games, including some important La Liga fixtures against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, and the Los Blancos' Champions League last sixteen clash against Schalke.

Real Madrid are also sweating on the fitness of defender Sergio Ramos, who was also forced off the pitch against Sevilla.

Although Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that the centre-back had a problem with his hamstring, the extent of the injury still remains unknown.

"Sergio had a hamstring problem," the Italian told the club website. "We cannot evaluate it yet. We must wait a few days."
