Ranam vs Theevandi: Box-office collection comparison

Mollywood is now witnessing a box-office war between two youth icons in the industry; Prithviraj Sukumaran and Tovino Thomas. Due to the mammoth pre-release hype, both Ranam and Theevandi succeeded in spinning a decent sum of money in the opening day. It should be also noted that Prithviraj's 'Ranam' emerged as the 2nd biggest opener of 2018 beating Aadhi and Neerali at the box-office. Mammootty's Abrahaminte Santhathikal is the film which holds the record of the biggest opener in 2018.

Ranam box-office collection

Even though Ranam has racked up mixed to negative reviews from audiences, the film is continuing its steady run at the box-office, and all the credit goes to the Hollywood style filmmaking adopted by director Nirmal Sahadev. Prithviraj's star power is another crucial factor which is helping the movie to stay steady in its box-office run.

Ranam was released in more than 150 theatres all across Kerala on September 06, 2018. Most of the theatres in Kerala witnessed an attendance of more than 80 percent in all the shows since the date of its release, and it is thus slowly emerging as a safe bet for the producer.

Even though the makers are yet to reveal the overall collections, IB Times obtained figures from some of the selected theatres in Kerala. From Ernakulam multiplexes alone, the film grossed more than 6.5 lakhs on its opening day. From Thiruvananthapuram Aries Plex, the film racked up more than 2.18 lakhs on its opening day.

Experts believe that Ranam might have collected somewhere around 8-9 Crores since the fall of its third day theatrical run. As many critics have panned the movie, its collection may be dropped in the coming days.

Theevandi box-office collection

Directed by TP Fellini, Theevandi, which stars Tovino Thomas in the lead role hit the screens on September 07, 2018. The film has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, and it is directly reflecting in the movie's box-office figures too.

A recent report published in Forum Keralam reveals that Theevandi collected 5.64 lakhs in its opening day exclusively from multiplexes in Ernakulam. It should be noted that Tovino Thomas' previous release Maradona had collected just 1.87 lakhs from Kochi multiplexes on its opening day.

However, Theevandi is slightly behind Ranam in terms of collection figures. Industry experts believe that the Tovino Thomas movie will end up as a sleeper hit as the box-office considering the positive reviews surrounding the flick.
