Sony has announced that the PlayStation Network (PSN) has been restored after it went down due to cyber attacks by hacker group Lizard Squad.

Players were unable to access the network following the DDoS attacks. "PlayStation Network is back online,"  Sony said in an update on its official PlayStation blog

"As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days," it added.

For players who have been still facing issues Sony suggested that they revert to the old method of rebooting the console and trying to connect to the PSN again. The PSN status too says it is "online."

Sony had previously promised that its engineers were working on getting the network back online but no sooner was access to it restored that there was a sudden surge in traffic that led to sign-in issues.

The hacker group had attacked PSN on the Christmas Day (25 December 2014) thus forbidding many gamers from playing games that require the network. The group had also attacked Xbox Live network on the same day. The Xbox Live Status website says Xbox Live Core Services are "up and running."
