best friends Lucy and Sammy with albinism kick up a stylish storm on InstagramInstagram/lucy_and_sammy

French fashion designer Coco Chanel once said: "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different," and different they may be, but in a beautiful way. While numerous people worldwide are often not very comfortable talking about albinism and battle it day in and day out, best friends Lucy Carpenter and Sammy McCombe are doing it with an amazing twist.

Lucy, 14, and Sammy, 12, from Australia were born with oculocutaneous albinism, an inherited disorder that affects the skin, hair and eyes and is characterised by a reduction or complete lack of melanin pigment. But they aren't letting the condition come in the way of how fabulous and adorable they are.

The friends first met at a Vision Australia and Guide Dogs Australia camp six years ago and have been inseparable since, thanks to their common interest in fashion and style among other things.

"I remember thinking how cool Lucy looked in her leopard print fluffy jacket, cane and large glasses. I knew I wanted to be her friend," Sammy told Geelong Advertiser. "From that day on we were inseparable," Lucy added, explaining that their friendship is like any other and they get along like a house on fire at times and debate on things that they have different opinions on. "We bond over our albinism, but at the end of the day we're just normal kids who want to have fun."

Speaking about their daily struggles, they said that they have to often sit in front of the class due to vision issues and cannot go out in the sun too much as their skin burns easily. Though this might be a bit too much to take at times, they are glad that they have each other.

"I love the fact that we are so similar, everything that has happened to me has happened to Lucy twice," Sammy explained. "Lucy and I are close because we like the same things, and have the same struggles we can relate to each other in a way that is very understanding, positive and fun."

While they say that not everything comes easy to them, it looks like a sense of style is something that comes pretty easily to both of them. They have an amazing Instagram account with about 4,700 followers and post images wearing some of the season's latest styles. With the account, Lucy and Sammy want to spread the message that different is beautiful.

"I have been very surprised at how many people loved our photos and gave us great feedback," Sammy told the website.
