Maruti Suzuki leads the pack in domestic passenger vehicle sales in the month of May 2017. The country's largest carmaker recorded 15.1 percent year on year growth and sold 1, 30,248 units in India in the month gone by.

Hyundai Motor India came second with sales of 42,007 units at 1.59 percentage growth. However, Hyundai fell way behind Maruti Suzuki. In exports from India, the South Korean carmaker has seen a dip in May with Hyundai dropping to the fourth position.

Mahindra and Mahindra settled for the third position in May selling 20,270 units. Tata, which was in the third position for long until Mahindra took over the position, pushed Honda to the fifth position. Although Honda Cars India sales were up by 13.30 percent in May, but it still came up short of Tata's impressive 32.18 percent growth at 12,499 units. Tata's recent launches Tiago, Tigor and Hexa helped the company to register good figures close on the heels of a change in tack in passenger car strategy. Honda Cars India's sales, on the other hand, stood at 11,278 units.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors retained its sixth slot despite recording de-growth in May. The company's sales in the country in May 2017 went down by 13.48 percent. Volkswagen was the second carmaker in May to record de-growth and came tenth in the list with sales of 3,231 units. In the seventh slot was Renault India selling 8,639 units and Ford took the eighth spot with sales of 6,742 units. Japanese carmaker Nissan came ninth with 5.73 percentage growth selling 3,707 units.

Overall, in May the domestic passenger vehicle sales posted 8.63 percent growth. Passenger vehicles sales are ,ikely to grow between 9-10 percent in the financial year 2017-18.
