Pakistan's intelligence agencies are working to hack into the Indian government's computer networks, especially of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MHA), an advisory issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has warned.

The MHA alert came on Friday and urged that "sensitive and classified information" must be protected as Pakistani agencies were likely to use online proxies to hack into the systems of the Indian government, as per reports.

The ministry also sent the alert to other ministries such as civil aviation, finance, power and telecom, to warn it of a possible cyberattack.

Hackers may particularly target the headquarters of the armed and paramilitary forces, the Home Ministry warned. 

Last month, the website of Indian Space Reasearch Organsaition's (ISRO) commercial arm Antrix was hacked.

Earlier this year, the website of Principal Comptroller of Defence Accounts (Officers) (PCDAO) was hacked and sensitive details about army officers' service and financial details were accessed by the hackers, who were suspected to be either Chinese or Pakistani, The Times of India had reported.

In March this year, Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had informed the Lok Sabha that as many as 700 government websites have been hacked since 2012.
