The list of one of the most prestigious awards of the country, Padma Awards 2016, is out and this year superstar Rajinikanth, "Baahubali" director SS Rajamouli, sportspersons Saina Nehwal and Sania Mirza are a few who will be honoured.
The Padma Awards, which has three categories -- Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri – seeks to recognise distinguished work in various fields like art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service and others.
The winners list of Padma Awardees was announced on Monday by the government. Veteran actor Anupam Kher, singer Udit Narayan, former CAG Vinod Rai and theatre personality Heisnam Kanhailal, former US Ambassador to India Robert D Blackwill, sportspersons Saina Nehwal and Sania Mirza and Indu Jain of Bennett, Coleman & Co among others have been selected for Padma Bhushan.
Superstar Rajinikanth, media baron Ramoji Rao, former J&K Governor Jagmohan and spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar among others will be conferred with Padma Vibhushan.
Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn and Priyanka Chopra, "Baahubali" director SS Rajamouli and lawyer Ujjwal Nikam will be conferred with Padma Shri this year.
Actor Anupam Kher tweeted saying that he is honoured to be conferred the Padma Bhusan.
"Happy, Humbled & Honoured to share that i have been awarded The PADMA BHUSHAN by the Govt. of India. Greatest news of my life:) #JaiHind," Anupam Kher tweeted.
