Opening Day Box Office Collection: Bipasha's 'Alone' Below Average; Vikram's 'I' (Ai) Decent in North

Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover's horror film "Alone" had a below average opening at the box office, whereas Vikram and Amy Jackson's "I" had a decent Friday.

Alone

The horror film grossed approximately ₹3.5 crore on first Friday, which is below par compared to the hype. The pre-release buzz was strong and the actors promoted the film heavily, but it failed to show good results at the box office.

The film would have done a decent business, if the collection had been more than ₹4 crore. Nevertheless, it is just an opening day box office collection and the film has six more days of free run at the ticket window, before Akshay Kumar's "Baby" and Sonam Kapoor's "Dolly Ki Doli" hits screens.

Reviews are mostly positive and word of mouth is strong, which will help the business of the film in the coming days.

I (Ai)

The Hindi version of Vikram's "I" was released on Friday along with "Alone" at the north circuits. From its opening day, the film minted approximately ₹2 crore, which is decent since it's a dubbed film.

Mumbai circuit contributed the maximum income compared to the other north circuits, including National Capital Region, UP and East Punjab.

Shankar's directorial film has been doing well at Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala box office. In South, the film was released on 14 January and opened on a grand note.

From AP- Telangana box office alone, the film minted approximately ₹15 crore in two days. From Tamil Nadu it minted ₹7.4 crore net, from Karnataka ₹1.9 crore and from US box office it raked in $293,000 (₹1.8 crore) on day one.

Meanwhile, both "Alone" and "I" have weekends to perform their best at the box office.
