ASUS launched a powerful variant of its most successful smartphone series ZenFone 2 at a grand event. Dubbed ZenFone 2 Deluxe, the smartphone has been priced at Rs 22,999 and will compete head on with the recently launched OnePlus 2, which is selling for Rs 24,999.

Both the phones offer mind-boggling features and are expected to confuse would-be buyers. Here is a specification comparison of both phones:

Build and Design

OnePlus 2 and ASUS ZenFone 2 Deluxe differ in build quality and design. OnePlus 2 comes with a flat back panel and metal rim around the sides, making the phone rugged yet stylish. ZenFone 2 Deluxe features the same curved polycarbonate back cover with a diamond cut polygonal design. While the OnePlus 2 will impress the minimalist design lovers, ZenFone Deluxe might impress fashion-conscious consumers.

Display

Both the phones come with a 5.5-inch, 1080 x 1920 display for impressing big screen lovers, overlaid with Corning Gorilla Glass for added protection. But, being a little future-proof, OnePlus has Gorilla Glass 4, which is more rugged than Gorilla Glass 3, featured in ZenFone 2 Deluxe.

Specification

The OnePlus 2 packs Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 810 SoC with 4GB DDR4 RAM memory. By comparison, the ZenFone 2 Deluxe packs a 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 processor with 4GB RAM memory. In our ZenFone 2 ZE551ML review, we found the Intel processor capable of handing most of the jobs decently, making the phone a powerful performer. We believe the same will repeat with ZenFone 2 Deluxe. But OnePlus 2 has a major advantage over its competitor by featuring a DDR4 RAM memory, which consumes less power, yet performs better than the DDR3 RAM memory seen in ZenFone 2 Deluxe.

Operating System

OnePlus 2 runs on a heavily customised edition over Android 5.1.1. Touted as OxygenOS, the operating system offers several handy utilities inside an intuitive interface. By comparison, the ASUS ZenFone 2 Deluxe runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop overlaid with ASUS ZenUI interface. In our earlier review, we found ZenUI pretty easy to use and features an app drawer that most of the Chinese smartphone makers lack. Still, the latest Android OS gives an upper hand for the latest OnePlus device.

Camera

Both the device ties by featuring a 13MP, f/2.0 aperture primary snapper and a 5MP front camera. Both are good enough for clicking decent images in subtle lighting environment.

Storage and Battery

OnePlus 2 packs a superior 3,300 mAh battery over the ZenFone 2 Deluxe's 3,000 mAh battery. Considering the display size, resolution and RAM, its easy to see that the OnePlus 2 will offer at least 20 percent more battery life than ZenFone 2 Deluxe.

In storage segment, both the devices tie again by packing similar 64GB built-in storage but ZenFone 2 Deluxe offers expandability support up to 128GB, which the OnePlus 2 lacks.

Our Take

Both the phones pack decent specifications for the price. But the OnePlus 2 features the latest operating system, fingerprint scanner, DDR4 RAM and Gorilla Glass 4 over ZenFOne 2 Deluxe. But lacks in the storage department.

ZenFone 2 Deluxe has been priced Rs 2,000 less than the OnePlus 2 and is expected to impress the style-loving consumers, while OnePlus 2 is an allround device with killer performing abilities, though a tad expensive.
