Porsche 911, the quintessential sports car of Porsche, which unmistakably carries the essence of the German carmaker, witnessed another milestone after 54 years. The Zuffenhausen manufacturing facility of Porsche rolled out the one-millionth 911 off the production line.
The millionth model was a 911 Carrera S, draped in a special colour of Irish Green with numerous exclusive features following the original 911 from 1963. The 911 model will embark on a world tour and will take road trips in the Scottish Highlands, around the Nürburgring, and in the USA, China and beyond before it moves on to the collection at the Porsche Museum.
The 911 Carrera S is powered by a six-cylinder inline 3.0-litre petrol engine, which is tuned to belt out 420hp of power at 6,500rpm and 500Nm of torque at 1,700rpm to 5,000rpm. Mated with Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe dual-clutch automatic transmission, the Carrera S can sprint from 100kmph in 4.3 seconds.
"54 years ago, I was able to take my first trips over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road with my father. The feeling of being in a 911 is just as enjoyable now as it was then. That's because the 911 has ensured that the core values of our brand are as visionary today as they were in the first Porsche 356/1 from 1948," said Wolfgang Porsche, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG. Wolfgang Porsche has been a part of the development of the 911 since day one.
In 2016 alone, 32,365 Porsche 911 models were sold. More than half of Porsche's over 30,000 race wins can be credited to the iconic car. The production site in Zuffenhausen is where all 911s ever built have been manufactured. Today, all two-door cars – 911, 718 Boxster, and 718 Cayman – and their various derivatives are handled on one assembly line, thanks to a sophisticated production approach. Porsche has never strayed from the founding concept of the original 911 and the iconic car still thrills private motorsport enthusiasts around the world in numerous racing series.
