English-Irish boy band One Direction sets new Twitter Record.Facebook/One Direction

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson's Twitter message to co-star Harry Styles is the second-most re-tweeted post till date after Ellen Degeneres' Oscar Selfie.

Tomlinson's post has been re-tweeted more than 7,80,000 times, whereas Degeneres' photo had crossed the 3.4 million mark.

Following One Direction's tweet was U.S. President Barack Obama's campaign post, Buzzfeed writer Matt Bellassi stated.

President Obama's post was tweeted after his second U.S. election victory on 6 November, 2012. The message smashed previous records within a few hours by being re-tweeted more than 7,50,000 times.

The Twitter message posted by the British-Irish boyband member was posted on 2 October, 2011. It read, "Always in my heart @Harry_Styles. Yours sincerely, Louis".

Even though Tomlinson's message is the oldest of the top three re-tweeted posts, it is not even close to the record set by Degeneres' Oscar Selfie, which was uploaded on 2 March, 2014.

Meanwhile, One Direction is gearing up to kick off their concert tour "On The Road Again Tour" on 7 February, from Australia. During their trip, the group will visit several countries including Japan, Thailand, Philippines, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Canada and the United States.
