Three people have died in Odisha due to anthrax in a district where the disease has already affected several people.

The deaths occurred in Odisha's Koraput district within the span of a week. Several people are said to be in critical condition, news agency ANI reported. 

The anthrax scare began in Koraput in Odisha last December, according to Odisha Sun Times

Medical officers and doctors have camped in the Anthrax-affected district to distribute medicines and treat patients, The New Indian Express reported. 

Locals in the Koraput district in Odisha have fallen victim to Anthrax several times in the past.

Last year, 15 tribals were affected with the disease in the same district, while several deaths were also reported from the disease in 2008. 

Anthrax is a deadly disease that affects animals and is transmitted to humans usually through eating stale meat. 

Apart from Odisha, Jharkhand is also seeing an anthrax scare , with two deaths reported last month. 

Eight cases of anthrax have been reported in the state since last November, according to The Times of India
