At least four people were killed and over 30 were injured when a bus fell off a bridge in Odisha's Angul district on Tuesday. The bus, which was travelling from Angul to Athmallick on National Highway 55, was carrying over 40 passengers.

The incident took place near Tukuda. The initial reports suggest that the bus driver had attempted to save a biker who strayed into the vehicle's path. The bus then plunged about 15-20 feet.

Two people were declared dead on the spot. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where two of them were declared brought dead.

The injured have been shifted to the district hospital at Angul. The condition of seven of the injured is stated to be critical. They will be shifted to Shri Ramachandra Bhanj Medical College in Cuttack.

Rescue operations are still underway. It is alleged that police and fire brigade officials reached at the spot hours after the accident. Locals have been assisting in the rescue operations.
