Rajinikanth took Kollywood by surprise when he announced that his next project will be with new- age film maker Pa Ranjith, who is known for his movies such as "Attakathi" and "Madras". Ever since the news broke out, the industry is abuzz with rumours and updates on the flick.

The latest we here is that Rajinikanth will not have a heroine in the movie, as he has decided to try something different from his typical superstar image. Sources claim that Rajinikanth will play the role of an aged gangster in the upcoming movie.

The superstar was apparently so impressed with the movie script that he allotted 45 days to P Ranjith to complete his portion. It would be interesting to see how the director handles Rajinikanth's stardom with his realistic approach to film-making.

The untitled movie will reportedly be produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under the banner of Kaliapuli Films International and the makers are planning the movie as Pongal 2016 release.

Rajinkanth has had a bad run at the box office in the last five years with his two releases "Kochadaiiyaan" directed by his daughter Soundarya and "Lingaa" directed by KS Ravikumar. Therefore, starring in a Pa Ranjith movie is being seen as a fresh approach by Rajinkanth by many in Tamil industry.

Earlier, it was reported that Rajinikanth's next project will be with "Enthiran" directed Shankar. But now industry sources claim that a movie with Shankar will take time, as the makers want more time to complete the pre-production work.

After his successful attempt with Vikram's "I", Shankar's upcoming Rajinikanth project is said to be yet another big-budget movie. The last time Shankar and Rajinikanth came together was for the 2010 blockbuster "Enthiran".
