A bomb blast ripped across a bus station in Nigeria killing 40 people, including five soldiers, on Thursday.

The area has been plagued by violence by Boko Haram militants, though the group has not claimed responsibility for Thursday's attack yet.

The blast occurred in a village 30 kilometers outside the town of Mubi in Adamawa state, which has been under the control of militants.

The terror outfit had earlier this month renamed the town to "Madinat-ul Islam,", which means the 'city of Islam', AlJazeera reported.

"There were bodies everywhere on the ground," witness Abubakar Adamu, told Reuters.

The incident comes two days after a suicide bombing attack in Maiduguri on Tuesday, in which two female suicide bombers reportedly killed 44 people.

Nigeria has declared a state of emergency in Adamawa  among other states plagued by Boko Haram violence.
