American rapper Nicki Minaj did an impressive impersonation of Kim Kardashian as well as Beyonce on "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) 6 December.
Rolling Stone magazine states that there are three types of "SNL" musical guests – "The 'double-threats' like Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift who host and perform, the musicians who play their two songs and jet, and the artists who make their mark in both the sketches and on the Studio 8H stage."
Minaj belongs to the last category, as she certainly made a mark with her hilarious performance on the show on Saturday. "The Pinkprint" rapper not only performed her new songs "Bed of Lies", "All Things Go" and "Only," but also participated in many memorable comedy sketches.
The James Franco-hosted show saw a lot of Minaj in the 6 December episode, from spitting from the mic to her sketch appearances that imitated female celebrities. Franco, who was there to promote his upcoming movie "The Interview," seemed at ease sharing the spotlight with Minaj.
In "The Interview," Franco shares screenspace with "Knocked Up" actor Seth Rogen.
Before being introduced as the week's "SNL" musical guest, Minaj played Beyonce during a skit of a fictitious MTV show – 'Jungle Ballerz.' She looked very convincing in her impersonation of the 'Halo' singer. The skit was a hip-hop version of the Nativity Story in which many "SNL" members pretended to be rap-all stars.
Later, Minaj was seen playing Kim Kardashian on "Weekend Update" where she discusses her famous nude photos that featured in "Paper" magazine. In the sketch, Minaj recreated many of the photos but this time, it was with comical backgrounds that included a visit to the gynaecologist and match competition as well.
"The entire thing was completely misinterpreted. They forgot to put the backgrounds in, so the photos are completely out of context," Minaj said while trying to mimic Kardashian, Billboard reports. Even though the rapper's Kardashian impersonation wasn't as impressive as the Beyonce one, she still managed to electrify the atmosphere in the studio.
