Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) launched the new Fortuner SUV on November 7 at a starting price of Rs 25.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Within 14 days of the launch, the waiting period for the new version has soared to two months depending on the city.

TKM had opened bookings for the SUV on November 7. Similar to the phased out version, the most number of orders is for Pearl White shade followed by the newly-introduced Phantom Brown, reports Autocar India. Despite being costlier than rivals such as Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Ford Endeavour, bookings for the new Fortuner are reportedly healthy.

The Japanese auto giant has launched the new Fortuner in six variants -- 4x2 petrol manual, 4x2 petrol auto, 4x2 diesel manual, 4x2 diesel auto, 4x4 diesel manual and 4x4 diesel auto. Fortuner comes with a 2.7-litre petrol engine or a 2.8-litre diesel engine.

While the diesel variant generates 175bhp of power and 450Nm of torque with AT and 420Nm with MT, the petrol engine is tuned to pump out 164bhp of power along with 245Nm of torque. The transmission in both the variants has been handled by a six-speed manual and automatic gearbox.

The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is built on the highly modular Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) platform. The company has given a major rework to the face of the SUV. With slim headlight and tail lamps, and sleek front grille, the new Fortuner comes with a young feel. The SUV measures 4,795mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,835mm in height and comes with a wheelbase of 2,750mm. The latest version of the SUV also boasts of eco and power modes, hill assist control, paddle shifters and active traction control.

Deliveries of the Fortuner diesel variants are expected to start from mid-December, while the petrol version has a longer waiting period for delivery.
