Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while returning to India from Afghanistan, will stop in Lahore to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on Friday.
"Looking forward to meeting PM Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today afternoon, where I will drop by on my way back to Delhi," Modi tweeted after addressing a joint session at Afghanistan's Parliament.
After concluding his two-day visit to Russia, Modi reached Kabul on Friday morning. He met President Ashraf Ghani at the Presidential Palace before inaugurating Afghanistan's Parliament building constructed by India.
Earlier on Friday, Modi extended his wishes to Sharif on his 66th birthday. "I wish the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr Nawaz Sharif on his birthday and pray that he remains in wonderful health," he wrote in another tweet.
The relations between India and Pakistan had turned sour over repeated firings along the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu & Kashmir and also because of frequent infiltration of militants from Pakistan.
However, meetings between the two national leaders in Russian city of Ulfa and on the sidelines of the climate change meeting in Paris earlier this year helped smoothen the ties as both the countries have decided to sort out differences with dialogues.
At Parliament, in December, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, "We have decided that through talks we will resolve the issue of terrorism as talks is the way forward so that the shadow of terror is removed. But we want to make it clear, our Prime Minister has made it clear that talks and terror can't go together. Dialogue is drowned by the sound of explosion," PTI reported.
