Mumbai's Taj Hotel receives threat call from Pakistan, security beefed up

A threat call was received at Taj Hotel in Mumbai on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, June 30, following which security has been beefed up in the area. 

According to officials, the call was received from Pakistan at around 12.30 am and the caller threatened to blow up the hotel.

The Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Colaba and Taj Lands End hotel in Bandra in Mumbai city received terror attack calls from Pakistan and the caller identified himself as a member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit threatening to blow-up the two hotels in Mumbai, according to India Today reports. 

Caller threatened to blow up two Mumbai hotels

The caller said the Taj Mahal Palace and Taj Lands End hotels would be blown up as it happened in 26/11 Mumbai attack.  Taj Lands End Hotel in Bandra received the second call, the caller threatened to blow up the hotel similarly. The calls were recorded from the same number. The call is currently being investigated to locate the caller. 

Due to coronavirus lockdown, the hotels remain shut but the Mumbai Police has beefed up the security and has taken measures to secure the area. 

In 2008, Taj Hotel became the victim of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, the deadliest attack which killed 166 people, leaving 300 injured. During the attack, the 10 heavily-armed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist also targeted the Nariman House.
