It seems Motorola is working on releasing Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA (over-the-air) update to its devices and the Moto X Pure Edition (known as Moto X Style outside USA) could be the first Motorola device to receive the firmware.

The software is already being rolled out to Google devices -- Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9, Nexus Player and Android One smartphones – and is very likely to come to Motorola devices in the next few weeks.

A report by GottaBeMobile has claimed that Motorola has started testing Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Moto X Pure Edition. It added that the software OTA update will be rolled to Moto X Pure Edition before being released to Moto X (2nd Gen) and other devices. 

David Schuster of Motorola has also confirmed that the company has TestDrive for the Marshmallow upgrade on the Moto X Pure Edition, giving a clear hint that the software release is not far off, perhaps in November.

"There have been a couple reports of a Marshmallow "soak test" that has started for Moto X 2015 Pure Edition. Just want to make it clear that we have NOT started a formal "soak test". We have started a small TestDrive for the Marshmallow upgrade on Moto X 2015 Pure Edition," David wrote on Google+.

"We will be conducting these tests for the next couple of weeks. Pending the feedback during this test cycle will determine the timing of a full soak test."

Meanwhile, Motorola has confirmed that its devices -- Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen), Moto X Pure Edition (2nd Gen), Moto X Style (3rd Gen), Moto X Play, Moto X (2nd Gen), Moto Maxx (2014), Moto Turbo (2014), Nexus 6 (2014), Moto G (3rd Gen), and Moto G (2 Gen) will receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
