After releasing Android Marshmallow to Moto X Style and Moto G (3rd Gen), Motorola has begun rolling out the new OS update to the mid-range Moto X Play in India.

Moto X Play owners have begun receiving the new firmware (build number: MPD24.65-18) OTA (Over-The-Air) notification. It is around 583MB in size and brings the new Doze power saving feature, which is said to extend battery life by at least 30% depending on the device's internal hardware.

Other notable features include native support for fingerprint sensor input, leaner and faster Chrome browser, more intuitive Now on Tap feature, new security feature verified boot system, support for more international dialects, new contextual assistance feature, Google photos and auto back-up from where all apps user data (less than 25MB) will automatically be stored in Google Drive.

How to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA on Moto series:

[Note: Moto series owners are advised to make sure the device has at least 50% battery so that the installation doesn't get interrupted mid way. Also make sure download update on Wi-Fi connection for smooth installation experience and to avoid hefty data bill]

If you have received a notification message for this update:

1. Select "Yes, I'm in".

2. After the software is downloaded, select "Install now".

3. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.

4. Your phone is now updated to Android 6.0.

It has to be noted OTA roll-out is being staged in phases, so it will take a few weeks to reach all corners. Until then, readers can follow the steps below to manually check for update on your phone by-

1. Select the Settings icon in the apps menu.

2. Select "About phone".

3. Select "System updates".

4. If the update is ready, select "Yes, I'm in". After the software is downloaded, select "Install now".

5. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.

6. Your phone is now updated to Android 6.0.

Other Motorola devices that are in line to receive the update include Moto Maxx (2014), Moto Turbo (2014), Moto G (2nd gen), Moto E (2015) LTE models only (in select markets).
