There were reports that Motorola might not release its Moto X Play, which has a big 3,650mAh battery, in the US. But now we hear that it will be released in the country under the Motorola Droid Maxx 2 moniker with a slight chance in specifications.
It may come as a pleasant surprise for many Motorola fans as reports were doing the rounds that the Moto X Style will be launched in the US as Moto X Pure Edition but the Moto X Play (Droid Maxx 2) will not see the light of day in the country.
According to a report by Phandroid, the Moto X Play could be launched as the Motorola DROID Maxx 2 for Verizon Wireless later this year. It went on to claim the Verizon exclusive device might have same specifications as the Moto X Play and priced at $300.
A report by Android Police also claimed that Moto X Play could come to US as DROID Maxx 2. It claimed to have received some photos of a device with Verizon and DROID labels in the rear panel, packed with features seen in Moto X Play like 5.5-inch screen, Snapdragon 615 SoC processor, 2 GB RAM, 21 MP main camera, and a 3,630mAh battery.
The report went on to say that the leaked device believed to be Motorola DROID Maxx 2 could come with only 8.14 GB internal memory and with microSD card slot, compared to 16/32 GB seen in the Moto X Play.
It is reported that Moto DROID Maxx 2 may hit Verizon stores before the winter holidays but it won't come as a surprise if it arrives earlier than expected as the Moto X Pure Edition is already up for pre-orders in the US and is expected to be hit the stores in a few weeks' time.
It may be mentioned that the Moto X Play sports a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels (403 ppi pixel density), powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615, and runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It also comes packed with a 16/32 GB internal memory (expandable up to 128 GB), 2 GB RAM, 21 MP main camera, 5 MP front snapper, and a non-removable 3,630 mAh battery.
