The crime thriller has been tagged as the comeback movie of the hit director-actor duo, Priyadarshan and Mohanlal, who have delivered many superhits in Malayalam. In Oppam, Mohanlal plays the role of a blind person named Jayaraman, who unravels the mystery behind the death of a former judge Krishnamoorthy (Nedumudi Venu), who stays at an apartment in Kochi, where he (Mohanlal) works as a lift operator. The convincing act by Mohanlal as a visually-challenged person has impressed the audience and critics alike, who have labelled Oppam as the winner among the Onam releases.

Oppam also stars baby Meenakshi, Samuthirakani, Vimala Raman, Anusree, Mammukoya, Renji Panicker, Chemban Vinod, Aju Varghese, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Innocent, Manikuttan, Anjali Upasana, and Bineesh Kodiyeri in main roles.
