Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach wins Miss Universe 2015 title; crowning ceremony in pictures [VIDEO]

Miss Universe Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach won the coveted Miss Universe 2015 crown on Sunday night at the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino, USA.

Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega from Colombia crowned the new beauty queen Miss Universe Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

The top three contestants were asked, "Why should you be the next Miss Universe?

And the winner Miss Universe Philippines answered, "To be a Miss Universe is both an honor and a responsibility. If I were to be Miss Universe, I will use my voice to influence the youth and I will raise awareness to certain causes like HIV awareness that is timely and relevant to my country, i.e. Philippines. I want to show the world-the Universe, rather-that I am confident and beautiful from the heart."

Miss Universe Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was named the first runner-up and Miss Universe USA Olivia Jordon was named second runner-up.

Earlier, Miss Universe Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was announced as the winner of Miss Universe 2015. However, host Steve Harvey apologised for the error and said that the card had the correct name and he took full responsibility for the mistake.

"I'd like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible," he tweeted after the pageant. 

"Secondly, I'd like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake." 

"I don't want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing," he added.

The top three finalists are Miss Universe USA Olivia Jordon, Miss Universe Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez and Miss Universe Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

Top 10 finalists are announced and in no particular order they are: Miss Universe USA, Miss Universe Colombia, Miss Japan, Miss Thailand, Miss Australia, Miss Universe Dominican Republic, Miss France, Miss Universe Curacao, Miss Universe Philippines and Miss Universe Venezuela.

Miss Universe Thailand wins National Costume round 

Miss Universe India Urvashi Rautela fails to make it in the top 15 semi-finalists round.

Top 15 semi-finalists announced and they are Miss Universe Thailand, Miss Universe Mexico, Miss Universe Colombia, Miss Universe Venezuela, Miss Universe South Africa, Miss Universe Japan, Miss Universe Belgium, Miss Universe Curacao, Miss Universe USA, Miss Universe France, Miss Universe Dominican Rep, Miss Universe Philippines, Miss Universe  Brazil, Miss Universe Indonesia and Miss Universe Australia.

Miss Universe Begins

The crowning ceremony will begin in a few hours in Las Vegas, USA, and one among the 81 contestants will take the Miss Universe 2015 crown home.

The live streaming of the 64th edition of Miss Universe will be available on the official YouTube page of the beauty pageant, while the grand finale ceremony will air live on Fox at 7.00 PM EST on Sunday (5.30 am IST Monday).

Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega from Colombia will crown her successor on Sunday night at the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino on Sunday, 20 December.

This year Emmitt Smith, Niecy Nash, Olivia Culpo and Perez Hilton are among the judges panel, but in a twist the organisers have introduced a voting section wherein the audience can vote to decide the winner of Miss Universe.
